Trim Out Regions By Defined Amount/Import Audio To Single Track
I've been doing some voiceover editing work, which is new for me, and I've run into a couple very basic editing needs that I realized I don't know if Pro Tools can do.
First, is there a way to import multiple audio files to one track other than manually dragging each one? I can't seem to figure that one out. Second, the audio files need to have a .25 second pad at the start and end of each file. This is after all the editing, cutting, pasting, consolidation, and noise reduction. I've been doing this manually by snapping regions to a 500msec grid, nudging them 250msec, selecting .25 seconds before and after the region and then consolidating, but that's very kludgy, and only works reliably for the start of the region. It seems like there must be a way to do this. Strip silence offers region start and end pads, but I just need the .25 second pad at the start and end of each region, not each individual piece of audio. These seem so basic, I can't believe I'm stumped and that I've never run into them before. Am I missing something? If there is no functionality for these procedures, does anybody have better workarounds? Oh, and as long as I'm asking, what about batch rename? I don't think Pro Tools' auto rename has the functionality I need so I think I may need a separate application for this, but the ones I've looked at don't seem to do what I need them to either. I need to be able to name audio files/regions by number, and then within each number, by letter, eg Sound 01a, Sound 01b, Sound 02a, Sound 02b, etc... Any ideas? Thanks! |

Re: Trim Out Regions By Defined Amount/Import Audio To Single Track
After you import the files into region bin set your region bin timeline drop order to left to right and drag them onto your edit window. This will create one track with all the regions in sequential order.
Strip silence can rename the files for you. Have a play. |

Re: Trim Out Regions By Defined Amount/Import Audio To Single Track
Timeline drop order! Brilliant! I knew it would be just stupid obvious. Shame on me!
I'm pretty sure that Strip Silence has the same rename functionality of the auto rename function in the region bin. Unfortunately, you can't have it append with letters, only numbers. You can add a letter as a suffix, but it will add the same letter to every file, which is not what I need. Any ideas on the .25 second pads? Thanks! |

Re: Trim Out Regions By Defined Amount/Import Audio To Single Track
Only slightly less laborious, but you could create a .25sec clip of silence and paste it to top and bottom of clip, then consolidate. You could even create a macro for it.
