Default Trillian vs Scarbee Bass

OK.

I've been using the Kontakt Scarbee basses for a while and I just can't seem to get the tone I want.

I'm curious if any of you have both Trillian and Scarbee and can comment on their differences.

Thanks in advance.

Carl

I don't use Scarebee Pre or Jay Bass for the same reason (plus Trilian basses have more articulations that I like). Don't get me wrong, Scarbee bass is a very nice concept, but IMO Trilian's electric basses have a much better tone on load up... I choose a bass fit for the song from the awesome collection and hardly ever have to tweak. Most times, with Direct knob fully engage and Ampeg off, I just add compression from within Trilian and the bass sits well in the mix.

If Trilian wasn't pretty much load and go with several great dynamic and timebased options within the plugin to further tweak if desired, then I'd probably take the time to get what I want from Scarbee.

Thanks. I'm watching the Trillian demos. That's the thing, I'm constantly tweaking the scarbee.

This thing seems awesome.

I'm going for it.

It's worth taking a little time with at first though.

Which Scarbee bass(es) exactly?

I've spent an awful lot of time with each library (Scarbee Red and Blue, and also Trilian) and if I had to choose (luckily I don't have to) I'd go with Scarbee. They're just more natural in the mix. Trilian basses still tend to have some of that overprocessed sound which plagued much of Trilogy and it's tough or impossible to remove if you feel that it needs to be. With Scarbee, I can add just a touch of Massey Tape-Head or some other good distortion, along with a little compression, and they really sit nicely.

Older "Red" samples were 16 bit (I believe) and a little too soft I thought. They just didn't slice through with that nice resonance that real basses and good preamps have. His later libraries filled out nicely.

I do like Trilian's "Studio Bridge" quite a bit, and the Vintage is great for vintage. The upright always needs help in the mix, though it brings plenty of rattles and squeaks and noise which every real acoustic recording has.

Well. I got it installed and figured out how it works. I'll try it with some tracks tomorrow.

Thanks for your help.

I will be very interested in hearing about how you feel about Trilian in the mix.

Me, too. I rarely have an issue with Trilian when playing it solo.
