Default m-powered gone after crossgrading to PT9

hi

i am running a PT 8 M-powered on my desktop G5 mac (not intel) for mixing. i use digital outs of a transit to a HEDD hi-class DA for monitoring and UAD-quad + plugs. -> no need for a faster mac.

to make use of my apogee ad16x as an interface for location recording i crossgraded to PT9 on my powerbook (intel mac). i used to run logic on that but am really exited to finally switch to PT.

but now the licence of PT 8 M-powered that i need for mixing on the G5 is GONE on the ilok!!!??

what happend?
how can i retrieve it?

If you check your iLok history file you will see that the M-Powered license was surrendered when the Pro Tools 9 asset was downloaded to your iLok.

I haven't tried running M-Powered since the upgrade.

I believe the idea is that the crossgrade price is less than the full software price. Avid is saying that if you crossgrade to PT9 for the lower price then you surrender your 'other' software (in this case M-powered).

If you want to run both then you need to purchase the "full version".
That's how I think it works.

Why would you want it?

Because his G5 is not intel and can't run 9.
To the OP: you needed to buy the full version as Brad indicates it was a crossgrade so yes you surrender your M-powered license.

I've got both 9 and M-Powered on my iLok for exactly the same reason... G5 with M-Powered and MBPro with 9, but I didn't crossgrade, so I'm sure that's the issue.

so for buying m-power 8 plus the crossgrade within 2 month, which by the way costs more than the full version, i cannot use pt 8 and 9 alternatively and i need to buy the M-powered once again, is that what you're saying??!

this is how digidesign tries to make their customers happy, right?

I think Avid's position on this is it's like trading in a 2009 model on a 2010 model (in car or motorcycle talk) and getting a certain amount off the purchase price of the 2010. That's about all I can equate it to. I can't say it's right or it's wrong, it's just how I feel they are approaching it.

I know none of this is the answer you want or will help you get your M-Powered license back. If it's any help, I originally bought the wrong upgrade and though it took a little back and forth with Avid support, I was able to get my money back. However I hadn't actually gone down the road of surrendering my M-powered license.

Okay here's how the pricing breaks down.

$599 (PT9) - $249 (PTMP) = $350 (Cost of crossgrade)

So really they gave your money back that you paid for PTMP when you crossgraded to PT9. Seems fair enough to me. So yes if you still need PTMP you will have to buy it again. However I bet if you look around you can find a PTMP license for less than $249.
