Default Bought 11R without PT, inexpensive PT options?

Hello all!

I just recently purchased an 11R with expansion, but without ProTools. I'd like to take advantage of rig editing on my Mac, does anyone have a recommendation for an inexpensive way to get into ProTools? My research tells me M-Powered may be the cheapest way to get into editing on-screen... I probably won't record, I just wanna use the GUI.

Thank you!

Pro Tools LE 8 would be the least expensive. You absolutely MUST have a minimum of 8 (8.0.1 to be exact)

Just know that LE is no longer supported.

You also need to check what version OS you have so you can see if LE8 is supported on your OS version.

I have OS X 10.8.3, some of the forums say I need LE 8.0.5 for Mountain Lion. I'll have to research more tomorrow (my shift is up in 6 minutes, hour ride home). Seem the real issue may be actually FINDING a copy of LE.

Thanks for the quick replies! Catch y'all in the morning...

if it wouldn't offend you - how much did you pay for the 11R? If you don't want to answer no problem... just wondering what the actual hardware was worth. I got mine with Pro Tools 10 & the Exp pack, a few other nice plugins from avid, etc., from B&H Photo a couple of months ago for $639 (had em on sale).

Eleven can be had for $400 (or even less) without PT - if you really don't need PT is a good deal.
8.0.4 LE works fine on Mountain Lion here.

I paid $395 on eBay, $20 to ship, includes everything but PT. The seller had like 20 of them. It's arriving on Tuesday. If I would have known I could get it for around $650 with PT, I probably should have gone for it. Does anyone know of a trustworthy site where I can buy PT 8 LE?

My Rocktron MIDI Mate came in today.

I have not tried this personally, however, everything I've read about it is positive. I use Pro Tools 10 and highly recommend it, but...liberty is freedom, freedom is choice. I believe in all three.

The Avid store should have retail copies of PTLE 8. Or EBay. Just buy from a seller with great ratings. There are plenty of them. If your buying used make sure you get a disk set from the seller or buy a set of replacement disks from the AvidStore. I say this because Avid wont transfer ownership of used software and and if your not the registered owner then you get no download links in your my Avid account. So if anything happens to your installers your up the crick so to speak.

Truthfully I would look for a used copy of PT 9 or PT10. I would also be waiting to see what the big announcement is that Avid are trumpeting about. PTLE 8.0 is a good to get going with but 9 and 10 offer a great deal more.

So, just installing PT8 will get him what he wants? The ElevenRack GUI will automatically be installed?

I ask, because I bought my rack with PT10. However, the only thing I have that will run 10 is my laptop. & I really don't like running PT on my laptop.... 1 hard drive & all that.

So I was thinking I could by an old copy of PT8Le to run on my trusty G5 & all should be good, but I got to wondering, would the ElevenRack GuI be installed or would I have to find someway to load it from my PT10 installation?
