Question "Robotic" effect

What's up?

I was wondering if there's a way to do a "robotic" effect with Waves plug-ins? I know it may be an EQ preset but which? Thanks.

Maybe I'm thinking of a vocoder? What's the best one around? Orange? Also, are there any free ones?

Depends on what you mean. I think most people think of the "robot effect" as a function of extreme pitch correction, like the Cher hit ten years ago, or that T-Pain character of recent iphone app fame.

EQ can get you the telephone effect, like Aqualung by Tull.

Vocoders can give you the Styx robot effect.

(Does it show that I'm kinda old? )

If you can point us to an example of what you mean, that would help a lot.

Tull is cool, just don't admit to Styx in public though

Whenever the question comes up about "that auto-tune" effect or the "t-pain sound" or that "cher vocal effect", all attempts should be made to obfuscate and suppress the method by which it was achieved. For the love of humanity, please...
