Default Free Studio Time for Staff Engineers

Is it industry practice to allow in-house engineers to get free recording studio time? I recall a friend telling me that he got free time at a small studio in his town.

The issue is that I really want to record on an analog mixing console, like on of those big outboard desks, but I can't afford to buy one or pay to use one. I get so cramped mixing and recording in-the-box all the time. I just want to reach for knobs and switches rather than staring at some bright little screen and clicking on little symbols for hours on end.

Default Re: Free Studio Time for Staff Engineers

use to be, to a point
if you were a good employee, there was some dark time, you weren't doing much more than a demo

now it depends on the place/owner
