Alright guys... this is what I'm currently thinking of ordering. If there aren't any objections I'll probably go for it.

PSU:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817151096
IMO better and slightly cheaper

CPU cooler
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835103099
for about the same price its a better performer and quieter option
or
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835608014
if you want to spend a few $ more. This is a top cooler.

For a case there are tons of valid options. Antec still my favorite mostly for their build quality and silent operation.

Solo

or
P280
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129179

Lian lee or Fractal Design are also valid choices

I will will never go near a Raidmax or Termaltake and the likes (recently got rid of a Coolermaster 690 that was about 2 years old and looked like its was 10) that thin metal, poor construction quality, bright colors and flimsy plastic parts are just not up to par. A better case will not only last longer and look better but also run quieter, cooler and cleaner (with decent removable filters rubber mounts etc.)

Happy building

and a Happy new year

Whatever power supply you go with, make sure that the 12V rail is at least 20 amps(split) or over 50 amps(single). My i7 950 can pull 18 amps at full tilt, so you don't want to starve it, which may have been an issue on my 950 system on the Gigabyte mobo as the old PSU was split rails at 16 amps(expect the 960 to pull a tad more). Now running a Corsair 700 watt(54 amp 12V single rail) and its working pretty damn nice(Dverb2 count went over 500). Able to pull almost 300 Dverbs at the 64 buffer

Thanks, mano111 and albee1952. I think I will definitely upgrade the case to the Antec Solo and probably go with the newer heat sink and different power supply. Does the Sea Sonic meet up with what you were saying, albee1952? I'm not too knowledgeable on the subject...

I could not find that info thru the link, which is why I laid out a general advice recommendation. Maybe poke around newegg as some items show more details than others

http://www.seasonicusa.com/S12II-Bronze.htm

The S12 II 620 delivers 48 Amps on the 12V rail (576W). This should be more than enough to power the proposed system.

I estimate up to ~250W at full synthetic load and a typical mix session should draw no more than 150-200W. Still plenty of headroom for OC and what not...

Cool, man. Thanks for finding that out for me. I feel pretty good about all of my current part selections, so I think I'll probably order tonight. I'm going to switch to the Antec P280. The solo just was not very attractive in my opinion, though it was cheaper...
I'm kind of a sucker for pretty lights and windows, so I kinda dig these cases too:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129021
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129066
I imagine they wouldn't run as quietly as the P280 though, so I guess I'll probably still go with it.

Will do! Parts are ordered and should ship soon! What version of Windows 7 is preferrable? I think I read home premium somewhere... Also, do you guys recommend doing all of the Pro Tools optimizations that the Avid website recommends? I think one of them might be part of the reason why my laptop is fried now, so I was wondering...
