Default PT. LE AND HD 192!!!!

I wanna push my 002r to the max without spending $8000 on a HD core card, which in my opinion is an outrageous price tag. I was just wondering if I could use digi's HD192 digital i/o via adat and bypass the 002's converters altogether to get that "HD SOUND". I read a similar type of set up in the DUC using the new Apogee Rosetta 800. Also, do i need an external clock to sync everything up?

Although your headed in the right direction, it will be necessary to have quality mics and pres as well. The Mytek or Benchmark converters could be the better choice, dependent upon your financial situation. Mytek has a converter shootout, that includes Apogee, on their site somewhere.

Maybe you should research your prices. If someone's charging you 8k for a core card, they're not going to be in business for very long considering you can get a core card and interface for about that price.

I'm using a Neumann M149 going through a Avalon 737sp and into the 002r for vocals!

The ADAT input on the 002 will not support any higher than 48k anyway. LE only supports 96K so a 192K session from an HD rig will not work either. Lots of us are turning out great sounding products at 44.1 and 48K using good mics, good pre's, good monitors and good techniques.

Not entirely true - in 8-channel ADAT mode, you're right, the optical I/O can only handle up to 48kHz sample rate. BUT, in 2-channel S/PDIF mode, the optical I/O can handle up to 96kHz.

How much better does 48/24 sound on HD192 compared to 002r. Has anyone done an A/B test? Is it worth the upgrade? Also does anyone know of any songs on the radio that was recorded and mixed on 002 or 002r that I could check out to hear the potential of my 002r before I seriously consider an upgrade?
