Default Digidesign 192 i/o not recognized in PT11HD

Hi,
We, the University of Applied Sciences and Arts, have got a problem with our Digidesign 192 I/O and avid Pro Tools 11HD system and searched in all forums for some answers... Maybe some of you guys can help us out.
We connected our Yamaha o2r 96V2 to the Digidesign 192 I/O box, from there to our Accel Core Card via PCI. The MAC recognizes our system but Avid Pro Tools does not. I´ve got to add, that we are running on a PT 11 HD trail version for now. However we are not able to add our 192 I/O on the hardware configuration settings as well as a Pro Tools Aggregate. Even on the MIDI settings it´s not possible to add an aggregate of our 192 I/O. We are setting a Pro Tools system for the first time, so please apologize if it´s something easy to handle.
Best regards,

Christian K.

Pro Tools 11 does not support any legacy HD/TDM cards. Not at all and not in any way (including not as a core Audio/aggregate IO device). You need a HD native thunderbolt, HD Native PCIe or HDX PCIe card to connect to your 192 interface. What exact model Mac do you have? With Pro Tools 11 you will also no longer have access to RTAS, TDM or AAX-32 plugins and need to make sure you can do what you want with AAX-64 plugins that are available.

You really need help from a (academic?) dealer who should be able to sort the options out for you. One option of course is staying on Pro Tools 10, the last version of Pro Tools that will support legacy HD/TDM cards and RTAS and TDM plugins. You get a license to run 10 when you purchase 11.

Hi, thanks Darryl,
our first pro tools system was the PT 7HD working with this Digidesign interface. However, as we changed the MAC system (to a Mac Pro, 2 x 2,66 GHz 6-Core), we were not available to install PT 7HD again (thanks to Mac OS X). So we decided to make it easy and try to connect our hardware to PT10 (not HD), which does not support our hardware. Well as we all know, avid is the antagonist of "easy" and the support is really bad at the time. Our academic dealer told us to get this Support contract of avid, so we can update PT 7 HD to 11 HD (which I doubt would work so easy, but okay) and he says PT 11 should work fine with the 192 I/O. As I see he forgot to tell us about the HD-card... We were trying to avoid to install a new system, but I think now we have no other option. Thanks for the help, if you think of other options, feel free to replay.
Best regards,
Christian K.

Sounds like your dealer let you down, I'd find a different dealer.

Your options are really to go HD Native or HNX if you want 192 or HD audio interfaces on Pro Tools 11 HD or use Pro Tools 10 HD software with your existing interfaces. Again if you purchase a PT 11 HD upgrade you will get the license to run Pro Tools 10 HD as well. The other option is to upgrade to Pro Tools 11 HD, buy a HD Native or HDX bundle, which also means you'll get a HD or Omni interface or possibly trade in your 192s.

You really need to be aware of all the options, so again a good dealer will help. In the USA a retail (non-education) upgrade from PT 7 HD to PT 11 HD will cost $2,500 alone. Which makes say just buying a HD Native system with an Omni or HD interface more appealing. And you may want to get off of the 192 onto HD interfaces for better future compatibility/support. And look at options including just selling your cards/interfaces on EBay or similar.

It all depends on what you are trying to do, especially for workloads heavy with VIs that benefit from 64 bit memory (as long as those VIs are available on AAX-64) or if you are using this for teaching I'd be on HD Native or HDX and kiss the old TDM stuff goodbye. If you have a bunch of TDM stuff, other systems to interoperable with and/or lots of legacy sessions and plugins that you need, I'd stay on Pro Tools 10.

As I understand it, an iLok asset for 11HD will also allow 10HD to open and run. 10HD would be compatible with your old HD card, but I don't know if it will work with your current OS version
