useless for S/MUX, at 96KHz.
worse is that the PCIe bracket has enough space.

don´t know if RME AES32 has SRC.

Why is it useless for S/MUX? 3 ADAT I/O means 12 channels S/MUX in each direction.

for 8ch AD/DA converters, works in S/MUX... 1x ADAT I/O port is left unused, not a big deal...
for 16ch AD/DA converters... 4ch are left unused, "half the second AD/DA is left unused" unless a second A3 pcie card is purchased.

1x ADAT light pipe has 8ch at 48KHz 24-Bit.
1x S/MUX light pipe has 4ch at 96KHz 24-Bit.

2 input 2 output = 8ch i/o at 96KHz.

if i purchase a second A3, 6 in, 6 out, 24ch at 96KHz.

3 input 3 output = 12ch i/o at 96KHz "1x card"
4 input 4 output = 16ch i/o at 96KHz "2x cards"
5 input 5 output = 20ch i/o at 96KHz "2x cards"
6 input 6 output = 24ch i/o at 96KHz. "2x cards"

1x AD/DA converter = 8ch at 96KHz
2x AD/DA converter = 16ch at 96KHz
3x AD/DA converter = 24ch at 96KHz.

to be 1:1 needs 3x 8ch AD/DA converters + 2x A3 pcie cards.

problem is: don´t know if ProTools works with dual A3 cards linked with TDM bus...

RME RayDAT has 4i 4o ports on a single double wide pcie card.

I know what S/MUX II is. The card in question has 3x ADAT input, 3x ADAT output. 12 channels in each direction at 96 kHz
