Default Oh to open a standard Midi file!

Been trying to open a SMF. You would think this was childs play but....

Tried to access a SMF made on a clients Roland work station. When I go to import the midi file in PT I get nothing on the directory yet I can view the file out side of the Protools application. This disc will also read on a PC as well as load into Cakewalk.

It is just a Standard Midi File, not rocket
science! What is going on?

Can anybody offer some deep insight into this? There I was extolloing the superior virtues of PT to my client and lo I could not get the file to open.

Thanks,

Nik

Or, convert your SMFs via MidiTyper, a freeware utility that converts them so that PTs will open it up.

Cheers

Nik,

This may not be a SMF, at least the way most of us define it. I too had problems with Roland files. I don't know if this will work, but give it a try. 1) Load it into Cakewalk. Make sure it will play the file. If it did that means it was able to convert it. 2) Do a "Save as..." or however you do it on a PC. 3) Email the new file to yourself and recover it on a Mac. Of course I'm assuming your using a Mac. 4) Import it into your session and see if it works.

I've found that sometimes these problems are more because of Platform issues and how each resolves the conversions.

Good Luck,

Another thing hapends to my PT on 9600/450
Sometime I load a sesion containing also MIDI files. I don't hear anything until I go to OMS option on PT and cklick on it and after just hit OK . Everything works fine after that. I try to trash things around but made no diference.
Good look.

Thankk you all so much for the time
and providing your advice!

I found Midi Typer was the solution to
the problem.

Transfering from Cakewalk did not work.

Cheers,

Nik
