Default RTAS Performance on HD

I'm curious, PCI cards can be found so much cheaper. I was wondering, using a very fast PC, how does RTAS performance stack up with PCI cards on a Windows PC. Here is why I ask. For the last few years, I've used an HD2 PCIe on my MacPro. I run only 3 TDM plugs, everything else I run RTAS. I have an HD2, but could live with an HD1 Pcie. I sold my system a month or so ago.

So will I get the same RTAS performance form lets say a PCI Non Accel, HD1 or 2 and still be able to run tons of RTAS plugs like I could on my MacPro or there other things I'm missing?

I'd say if you get an equal computer you should see better RTAS performance.

I've been running HD1 PCI for over a year now (on most Pro Tools versions up to 8.0.3). RTAS performance is just as good as TDM performance IMO.

It's impossible for me to say whether it's as good as the other systems you're mentioning though. I can just say that a PCI non-Accel HD1 runs RTAS plug-ins just fine on a Dell 490 Workstation (Dual Xeon).

Only one big RTAS problem I've encountered is with Sansamp PSA ... that plug-in can really [bleep][bleep][bleep][bleep] a session up if you're not running it as TDM. What I'm experiencing is that one instance of Sansamp as RTAS plug-in on ANY track (not the master channel) can cause the audio of the entire session to drop out.

Barhab. there have been issues with Sansamp denormalizing. You might try adding a dither plug after it in that channels inserts. Also updating it or reinstalling it may help.
