Congrats! How did you do the migration, if you don’t mind me asking?

Going to be upgrading from a 2015 iMac that is already rock solid with everything fully updated and installed on 10.13.2.

Just curious about licensing and all that. Any advantages to a clean install in this day and age?

I had a rock solid Imac (2012) completely up to date. I have hard drive usb 3 back up (this morning). Took about a half an hour with speeds up to 120 MB/s.

Waves test:
Created 64 tracks and created sine wave then loaded up every track with:
J37 Tape
NLS
TG12345
SSL G channel
API 550B
VEQ4
Vcomp
Pie Compressor
API 2500 compressor
REDD 37

Recorded on track one (no interface yet - waiting on my OWC to hook up everything). System at 74% all cores at 52% except 9-13 at 65%.

For some reason it loads up cores 9-13 more than the others. Computer has been on since first post. Some hot air coming out of back but the back is not hot like my other iMacs. No fans spinning high. Quiet as a church mouse.

Default iMac Pro Customization Options - Thoughts?

Installing from scratch is always the nicest thing to do... you end up with the cleanest possible system in the known standard state. And least likely to have future issues. But it takes more work... and if you are not careful might be a worse path to take than cloning.

I think what appledude saying is he cloned the hard drive?

I would go that way if you really have a clean system up to date with the latest High Sierra and everything else and reinstalling everything is such a huge barrier you cannot do that. If doing that I would use Carbon Copy Cloner... if possible I would shrink the boot partition on the new computer and restore the clone to a new partition there so you can always boot to the original partition while you test stuff out on the clone. You always want a separate clobe/backup of the boot partition but one thing that can make cloning easier is to put the old system in disk target mode and connect it to the new system.

I would not try to use system migration assistant for anything except user files. It especially can mess up driver installs, getting stuff wrong with lots of the ancillary software that comes with a driver—it has no way of reverse engineering what some installer did in the past.

Any chance you can run istat (even the demo) and say what the CPU temp is for this kind of load? Thanks...

PS - Intel Power Gadget is another good option for temps
