Default Thoughts on the Apollo QUAD

Anyone have any real world experience with one?

Is it a good option/price point ($2,400)? Are there any other hardware interfaces that you've used that you'd recommend with PT11?

Kind regards-

Real world, no

Do I have any other recommendations yeah.... I love my Focusrite Saffire 56 and I'll tell you why.

Low latency monitoring - like the Apollo

8 really nice (you won't find better for cheaper) mic pre's / Apollo has 4 only

Difference Apollo has the unison mic pre (gimmicky ? Perhaps. Revolutionary could be?)

And of course DSP in the interface which is very cool. Except you will drop another $1000 on the coolest plugins (you will) #audiocrack

And get the quad pcie b/c at least with that you can run in low latency mode- the FireWire satellites can't

Check out the thread over at Gearsluts, it's almost cult-ish.

I really appreciate the input. I was thinking about the possibility of running this on a Mac Mini. Help me wrap my head around this. So does that negate the usage of any cards like the UAD Quad card?

I am in the process of moving off what I currently have (windows Allenstien from the days of yore) to a system that will effectively run PT11. My 002 rack monitoring side went out. Not the power harness, which I have replaced twice. It's time to move on...

So looking at a new machine and new interface.

Thanks again. So many options.

Yes mini means no internal cards - also means FW bandwidth is being shared by the UAD plugs. No low latency options

Apollo might be better for that setup b/c of the thunderbolt connectivity but then your back to $2400

Thanks!

...starting basically from scratch again and have about a 5k budget. How would you spend it? Computer/Interface (need to leave some set aside for plug ins...ie. upgrades to Waves, Steven Slate Drums, Ozone)

But computer/interface...Big open ended question, I know. But would just love to hear the good and bad, as your guys expertise to is very helpful.

Kind regards-
