THE \"CUTTING EDGE!\"
Ok
It's time to grab a G4/450.....I'm running my 24MIX+/d24 rigs on 9600/300/350 or beige G3/300 minitowers. Everythings sweet....but....somebody's gonna ask for the poor mans Cray2 sooner or later. Does everything run much faster? What comments? I've read enough posts re G4/450/OS9 nightmares on the DUG to scare me off....but. ...it has to be done.... All comments would be gratefully appreciated. All the best Ade |

Re: THE \"CUTTING EDGE!\"
thanx for the reply Lee........
yeah...I've seen the thread you refer to.... and I've also read the long thread from Juan with the big rig trying to run three monitors and getting excess PCI buss activity (always a dogy excuse IMHO, like "the wrong kind of snow" or "leaves on the line" (sorry...these are UK specific references, but you catch my drift?..... The only reason that I'm wearing a puffa jacket rather than a staight jacket is that I've purposely stayed well behind the latest Mac developments, and stuck with the admirable old 9600s, but I still have nightmares............. "You must silence your lambs, Clarice"....... .....ooh-err |

Re: THE \"CUTTING EDGE!\"
as the guys before me said,
if it ain't broke why try to fix it? I've been using a 9600 with a G3 366 card and I use LOTS of plugs and often over 50 audio tracks. no problems ever (well that's a lie - but not because of the mac!) |

Re: THE \"CUTTING EDGE!\"
Have you seen the thread in the General Information section of the DUC?
If not, check out: http://www.digidesign.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000764.html If everything is working great for you now, it appears that you have a lot more to lose than you have to gain. But hey, don't let me stop you. By all means, please risk your sanity and livlihood blazing the trail so that it'll be smooth sailing later for those of us prudently holding back from upgrading right now. Lee Blaske |
