Separate volume automation for each playlist?
For me, one of the most useful things of having a separate playlist would be to have separate volume automation - but as far as I can see, this is not possible. Please tell me I'm wrong, though. Is there a way?

Re: Separate volume automation for each playlist?
As far as I know, no you can't. If you want to use playlists for this reason it may be simpler to just use audio tracks instead.

Yes, that's what I've gone ahead and done, which I guess is not that big a deal, though it does make things more cluttered and creates more potential for error.

You could use pre-fader sends.

Re: Separate volume automation for each playlist?
I am with you on that and I think it's an idea that can be put in Ideascale. I've thought about it in more than a couple occasions. There are times were you need to quickly come up with different mixing propositions, especially with "demanding" producers". Not a biggie, but it is good because then I could flip from what I know the producer thinks he/she wants, with what I believe fits best, fast. When I'm trying to prove a point, sometimes I get the "wristwatching" treatment, because producers need to run up and see "how these graphics guys are doing"...

Re: Separate volume automation for each playlist?
Playlists are set up so only the audio changes, not the plug-ins or any automation. Using separate tracks you can change the plug-ins and automation, just make the tracks you don't want to use inactive and hide them until you want them again.
Cheers,

Re: Separate volume automation for each playlist?
I know this is an old thread but someone asked me this question today. Is it possible to create separate volume automation on newer versions (PT 10-11). If not how would you use pre-fader sends instead?
Best regards. Last edited by Oroz; 02-09-2014 at 04:59 PM. |

Re: Separate volume automation for each playlist?
What exactly are you trying to do? I have to ask as I have been working with playlists for a long time and never have felt the need to have separate automation...

Re: Separate volume automation for each playlist?
I´d say the reason for multiple automation playlists would be the same as for using multiple edit playlists. The convenience of making a few different passes of automation and deciding which one to go for, or editing them together. This feature exists in Pyramix, I´m not sure any other DAW has it?
