using a focusrite isa 428 with mbox 2

this may be an uneducated question, but I don't understand how to connect my focusrite isa 428 to the mbox in order to get the audio into the computer. My concept is that if I use the isa 428 as a preamp and I connect its output to the mbox, I would basically be using two preamps. Is this correct? How should I connect the two units? Please help.

No problem.
You need cables to go from 428 out 1 & 2 to M-box in 1 & 2. You get line level signal from the 428 so be sure to select this at the M-box inputs.
I have never seen an M-box (live) but I’m sure, you need 2 balanced cables with female XLR´s at the one end & TRS jacks at the other.

Even better, if your 428 has digi card installed you could connect them digitally with the SP/dif cable.
