Why do my F keys stop changing tools?

I've been having this recurring problem where hitting any key from F6-8 will turn on my smart tool, and I won;t be able to turn it off by hitting an F key-only with the mouse. Restarting will usually cure it. It may not happen all day, then all of a sudden start up. It drives me nuts, because I don't really care for the smart tool and once this locks up, I can't switch tools.

I have done the usual rebuilding of permissions and trashing prefs.

8.04, 2.26 8 Core Nehalem, OS 10.5.8

Yeah I've been having this problem too. Usually frantically hitting a random selection of f6-f8 causes it to unstick as it were. I'm pretty sure that it was fixed on the last cs update, but has now reared its head again in 8.04 :-(

I have also tried the usual suspects, and have only just recently done a full re-install of OS and PT, and no joy.

Can't remember with leopard but in snow leopard there is a setting in system prefs/keyboard to use F keys for non-standard things. It gets unticked for some reason

Thanks. On 10.5, that option is "Use all F1, F2 etc. keys as standard function keys." It's checked now, which is right, but I'll chceck the next time it happens.

To JamesH: Are you seeing this in 10.5 or 10.6? I was wondering if upgrading would maybe fix it.

If this were the problem then it would happen all the time right? Any other ideas?

Not that this is any help but I get the same issue with PageUp and PageDown. Sometimes they just stop working for some reason. I have to reload the session or sometimes reload PT.

Seems like a pesky bug.

I have had the F key prob as well, and all my Expose stuff is disabled. It only happens once in a blue moon tho.

RTFM. It is a new semi-hidden function. This has been a much asked for feature, since it is very easy to accidentally change the trim tool to loop trim for instance. It is switched on and of by the key command control+shift+t.

Or you find it at the bottom of the options menu. "edit tool keyboard lock". There you have it.
