Default Using the HD Native Thunderbolt Interface on another computer?

Hi yall!

I'm currently renting a studio space, and all of the preamps are routed through an Avid HD Native Thunderbolt interface which is connected to the main studio computer (mac). I'd like to connect the interface to my personal computer instead, but it doesn't seem to be recognized when I plug it in. I use Logic as my primary DAW. Is there any way for me to use this interface without having to buy ProTools or use the studio owner's account? Does it have to be "registered" to my computer or something in order for me to use it, or is there a way I can just download some sort of driver so that my computer will recognize it as an input option when I plug it in?

Thanks!

I'm not 100% sure, but you should be able to install the HD Driver that is compatible with your macOS. I think you need an Avid account to access the Avid Download Center. But the studio should have an Avid account that can be used to download the driver.

Just to be clear, HD Native Thunderbolt needs to be connected to a DigiLink interface such as HD IO or MTRX Studio in order to be used in Pro Tools or via Coreaudio in another application. Yes, assuming you have that, you can leverage the Coreaudio driver to use this hardware in Logic or other audio applications.

best,

Jeff

Thanks! It looks like everything should work if I just install the HD Driver, but all of the Driver downloads I've found aren't compatible with my Mac's operating system (Catalina). I seem to only be able to find older versions of the driver, but none that work with the newer OS. They will not install. I even logged into the primary account associated with the HD Native, but I haven't been able to find one that works. Do they even exist for the newer Mac OSX's? If so, how do I get it?

Hi.

Here's the latest Pro Tools operating system compatibility chart:
https://avid.secure.force.com/pkb/ar...tibility-Chart

Which indicates that you can be on the following range for macOS 10.15:
2019.12 -> 2021.12

You can find all of those HD Driver versions here ->

best,

Jeff

You likely will also need a digilink license for it to work

He should not need that license if he is not using Pro Tools.

Ok, so I downloaded the compatible driver and now the HD Native Thunderbolt is showing up in my Audio Settings - but when I select it, there is no signal coming through. I plugged in the iLok USB and logged into the proper account, but still no dice. Any idea why?

What Digilink interface do you have attached to HD thunderbolt? Often they will need a degree of configuring, which can usually be done from the audio midi setup window in OSX.
