Default Re: Plugins that are questionable with HDN

I am using EQIII AAX on PT10.2 Native and my system crashes about once per hour. Tried 10.1.2, 10.2, 10.3 and there are more crashes on 10.3 than 10.2 It only crashes when I am working with automation.

Any thoughts>?

Ya only happens when automating EQ III AAX plugin.

I am running 10.2 and OSX 10.8.1

Maybe I should update to to 10.3 and 10.8.2 ??

I'm assuming, perhaps wrongly that you have more than just the mixer plug in and eq3 in the plug ins folder. You need to actually take problematic plug ins out of the folder and move them to the unused plug ins folder. Because otherwise PT does load them up when it launches.

BUT...

I'm fairly sure that won't be a plug in issue, but rather some other aspect of the system config.

What exactly is the full system spec? Also be aware that PT10 isn't the most stable version. There are quite a few issues.

an old program has older code than a new program? OMGWTFBBQ!

Also, I had the same issue with automating EQIII causing crashes. Haven't tried it since upgrading to 10.3 , but it was pretty regular in 10.2. I ended up just using a different EQ plug.

McDSP AAXs (Analog Channel, Compressor Bank) causes CPU overload in my 10.3 HD Native system.
It seems to happen when they're on screen and when I'm changing parameters.
RTAS version of the same plugins are working fine.
Does anyone having the same problem?

I have no problems automating EQ III or with any McDSP plugs, however, I am running McDSP as RTAS and have not yet downloaded the AAX versions.

this is on a Westmere 8 core running Lion with PT 10.2 HDN

Reaper is an amazing app. Incredibly efficient & stable. I use it on my live performance rigs for this reason.

However, it does not even approach Protools as far as audio editing goes, either functionality-wise nor in terms of the GUI / ergonomics.

Still, it's a AW to be reckoned with. Also, someone made a very nice translator to import sessions to/from Reaper and Protools! Sadly, I think this translator only works on a PC, not Mac.

I realize this is just a single report, and cold be due to some systemic thing, but it's really freaking me out. Especially after my 18 year battle with TDM and midi.

I have absolutley no idea what to do, now that midi composition has become my main thing.

Swap the big TDM rig for HDX & hope for stability?

Sawp for HDn & hope for enough power with low latency?

Switch to Reaper (or Ableton) on all platforms and say goodbye to Protools? (and spend 3 months hand-transfering all my old sessions. Ughhh.)

I need a drink.

Actually, I need a new job.

Hmm, I need a new job AND a drink.

crazy how much other things can work with ableton open, and running loops etc
but PT I have to shut all browsers and other programs just for the simplest playback....
10 years ago I would say thats the way but having other prog work fine with just say firefox open... and not mr PT flagship... kind of weak
but whatever
Im used to work arounds,.. thats 40% of a daily computer battle
