Can Pro Tools 10 open a Pro Tools FREE session?

Definitely used to work, but I haven't done it since PT7.

I can't see any reason why it would have ceased to work in the mean time, as backwards compatibility has always been PT's strong point - even when file formats have changed, there has always been the option of saving in one of the previous formats, and I don't recall ever having a problem opening an older format session on a newer system.

Yes.

I just installed the Sound Check Demo on Win7.

Opened PT 10

Browsed to the session folder

Clicked on the session icon.

Session opened.

Got a message about the Demo session being created on a Mac with out PC compatibility be checked. Was told to save the session so it could convert it to a PC compatible session. Did so. Closed session and browsed to the new session. Opened session. Saw the typical message about Output Paths being different. Got a relink message. Hit the space bar and rocked out

If your session was created on a PC it will probably open without the save as PC compatible session dialog.
