ISRC question - previously released material
First time I have ever run into this. I have a client who wants to use songs he previously released on a greatest hits disc. He always has me add the ISRC codes and other meta data to the MP3 versions of his songs (along with other things like album name, etc).
It’s my understanding that an ISRC code represents a unique audio file, but not necessarily the album or track number. So when re-using an identical recording on a new album, it seems like I should make a version of this same audio file with the same ISRC, but simply change other meta data relating to album, track number, etc. is this the correct way to do this, or should we use new ISRC codes?

Hi,
Ive always used the Same ISRC on remastered stuff. same song same artist same mix/version. Would have thought it would get confusing having the same song with different ISRC codes. Unless its a new project, different label bought the rights to release it or a compilation album for example. Chris

It is actually supposed to be tied to the mix no matter what label re-releases it or if it is remastered. That way royalties are kept straight.
