Default Installing HD 1 Core Card (PCIe)

I just purchased the PCIe HD 1 Core Card, I have a Mac Pro (Early 2009) I have two video cards installed in the computer. I read the instructions on installing the card correctly and it tells me to place the HD 1 in slot two (which is being used by my 2nd video card) Does it matter if I install the HD 1 core card into slot 3?

Thanks alot!
Eric

Hi,

Yes it should be fine in slot 3!

There's a possibility of a conflict with the second graphics card, but you'll soon know.

Do you have 2 graphics cards to have 4 monitors? i know there have been some problems with 4 monitor/2 graphics card setups in the past!! maybe thats fixed now.

Any problems remove the second card and try running without it and with the core card in slot 2.

Chris

No, i'm only running 2 monitors. I think I should just try slot 3 first and see it it works.

Hi,

You'd be better off getting a dual head graphics card! are you sure the graphics card doesn't have dual head capabilities? lots of the more recent graphics cards have dual display outputs.

I just thought of an SLI MacPro setup for a moment there and had a semi.

Using one dual-head GPU would make more sense indeed, especially since the MacPro's have one, single, lonely x16 PCIe lane. That second card is probably running at a fraction of its capabilities anyways.

Just a thought, really. The card should work in slot 3 as Chris said.

It is dual head, my 2nd video card isn't being used. Should I just take it out and put the HD 1 in the 2nd slot?

Hi,

If its not being used just take it out. less heat and less likely to cause conflict
