Default Importing MPEG-2 video?

Is there a way to import an MP2 video into PT11.3.1 non HD, work on the audio and re render the audio back into the video? I also have RX4 if that would help.

Thanks

Are you talking about MPEG-2 video - the DVD-Video format? MP2 is an audio format.

I've updated the thread title. It is MPEG2 video 15MBPS for broadcast. Files were created in Premier CC.

Transcode the video to a more PT friendly format, such as ProRes or DNxHD, once you've finished the audio, export that and then use something like FfMPEG to Mux the 2 together - ensure they are exactly the same length!

I was afraid that would be the answer. I assume that uncompressing and re-compressing the video will not be good for the picture which could be a problem. I’ll have to have a chat with the video boys.

You don't have to transcode it back to MPEG-2, just create a DNxHD version to work to, then add the audio to the original video. Sorry, my first post should have been clearer.

Is there a simple cheap transcoder to convert mp4 or other formats into DNxHD36? Or does it have to be done in Media Composer? I have been using Sorenson Squeeze to transcode MP4 files into ProRes 422 HD, but would prefer to work with DNxHD 36.

Thanks!

Free is cheap enough, right?

OP - the ideal codec for me is DNxHD36. I never have any issues with it.
