yeah i didn't get a whole lot more either goin' to 4gb. but you're right, it will help with VI's.

did you get your ram to clock at 1333???

no.
i will have to dig into the manual for that one.
1066 is the fastest setting in the bios.
i just set it to auto.
i'll try right now and see if it seems better
with auto, or 1066.

-----------------------------------------

just ran the test again with 4gb ram while
monitoring the temps, and my mobo temp went up to 45
and i got a warning. i just took out the 2 new gigs and
it stayed at 32.

why is this ram running so hottttt????????

okay.
with 4 gb ram installed
running cpu maxed out with 263 dverbs
@ 6 minutes in
cpu temp is 48
mb temp is 41

@7 min
mb temp went up to 42

@10 min
cpu temp went to 49

@ 12 min
cpu 49
mb 42

@ 16 min
cpu 49
mb 43.

okay. i can see where this is going.

i am using pc probe II.

not sure if any of this really matters.

just saying that the ram is running hot

temps go back to normal after i quit pro tools.

do you think this will ever be a problem?

well that is with your system runnin' flat out for the dverb test tho. i stopped my test after 5 mins so i'm not sure how hot my rig would have gotten had i run my test that long. my cpu temps did get up to 49-50 within the 5 mins tho. don't know what my mobo temp was. i'd say load up one of your regular sessions and see how temps look with that also.

i did set my cpu voltage and dram voltage lower than the specs after my test so things would run cooler tho. but i played with things long enough to see if they were gonna be stable. right now i'm playin' with some OC'g and temps on the mobo and cpu are runnin' higher...not by a whole lot but higher.

good luck with gettin' your ram dialed in to 1333. don't know why you are not seein' that option.

hey ivan, have you checked and updated your bios if necessary, that is also a possibility for your mb not allowing your ram to go to 1333????? just a thought.

and make sure you have your FSB freq and FSB strap set correctly. the settings have a 'direct' correlation to your available ram settings. what 3 options are you seein' for DRAM freq???

Default Re: Best Core 2 Series Desktops-Results and Specs

just thought i'd share my OC'g results with the rest of the Q6600 folks on here

i think i tested about 20-25 different bios setups and this is what ended up bein' the best settin' for me (Q6600 and ASUS P5K Deluxe Wifi w/bios 0603) for a 2.8ghz FSB Freq. for whatever reason i didn't want to OC too much. so this was the number i picked outta the air (or somewhere !!)

FSB strap 266
FSB freq 400
cpu multiplier 7
DRAM freq 1003 (under clocked my 1066 ram)
command rate 2t
timings 5-5-5-15
tRFC 42
'Ai Transction booster'** ENABLED
Boost level 2 (gives me a tRD of 6)
**also known as tRD or performance level, depends on mobo
results provided from SANDRA tests...
memory latency 72ns
memory bandwidth 7532mb

and all of this was achieved WITHOUT touchin' ANY voltages!!! my CORETEMP idles are 37 39 32 35 with my cpu fan profile setting at 'disabled'. chasis fans profile is set to enabled. my rig is wicked crisp!!!

regardin' the real world application of PTLE 7.4cs4, i picked up an additional and solid 54 dverbs ([email protected]/[email protected]). and this was still havin' ALL my plugins loaded (yep still too lazy to remove 'em!!! but i got close!!! ) temps on full-load were 51 50 46 47

i played with all FSB straps, FSB freq, and multipliers up to and at the 2.8ghz clock. this one delivered the most bandwidth and the 3rd best latency score. one of my goals was to not mess with cpu or dram voltages which i set manually, others are on 'auto'. and i did not wanna OC memory. thus my 'underclock' because of the choices that the strap and freq yielded me. so i could easily live with 1003 as opposed to 1066 especially since the 1066 did not get me better bandwidth when combined with the selected settings in the strap and freq. i also tested with underclocked ram @800 with timings of 4-4-4-12. scores and latency were good but bandwidth took the hit most noticably.

i used SANDRA (latest version), MEMSET 3.4, CPU-Z, and HARDWARE MONITOR. for my benchmark test i scanned a 4.5g folder with SPYSWEEPER AV. this setup did it in elapsed time of 3m:11secs whereas the setup with the worst score was 4:06. and of course this was done on my non-PTLE partition since SPYSWEEPER doesn't play nice with the onboard F/W of this mobo

from a PTLE perspective, i gotta believe the fact that havin' my latency (between NorthBridge and ram) dialed in like i got it 'directly' aids PTLE's performance greatly (21% increase in dverb score ). now the extra bandwidth is certainly a plus but since our most dreaded errors usually have to do with latency of some sort then i 'think' this is a key. but then again openin' up the FSB freq to 400 (deliverin' a rated FSB of 1600) ain't shabby either. the fact that my bandwidth efficiency wasn't that great, only 46% (some of the result of underclockin' the ram), but these results were still produced, again ain't too shabby. even with the SSAV tests, as long as latency scores were close, i could sacrifice bandwidth and still only have a difference of about 3 secs in scores. maybe when i've recouped from this past round of testin' i'll do a DVERB test with a setup with close to the same latency score but with a slower FSB (350 FSB @8x, yieldin' a rated FSB of 1400) and see what i get. but you know i'll find out that it's latency, FSB speed and bandwidth!!! but the more i think about it, the order will probably be rated FSB speed, latency, and bandwidth!!

anyway, for those lookin' to OC a bit, here ya go!!! hope it can be of some help.

sunburst and blade, i blame you cats for my need to know!!!

That's some pretty impressive stuff there Mykhal, especially without touching any voltages.

Is that memory score for read, write or copy?

Doing Dverb test and can't make more than 32 tracks...CPU is about 60% only. What do I do next? Test tone is solid for all 5 min.
