no cursor on playback or editing

Hi all, I'm new to ptf. i had a studio 6 years ago and we used PT10 99% of the time and never had an issue like this. My issue is ridiculous. I do not see a cursor bar moving along the track. When I try to trim a section the section disappears until i release the mouse. I can't watch the track get trimmed to the point I want to release it. If i try to highlight a section i want to copy to a new track, or delete or whatever., nothing happens. It's like my editing tools do not work.

It's got to be something stupid I'm missing with this Pinto version that is different from the Ferrari version.

I'm using a surface book i5 500gb ssd 8 gb ram and a UMC1820 interface. Sounds great recorded 6 tracks to a beat but I CANT EDIT because i can't see what I'm doing.

Notice the time start is 00:10:00 and the cursor is at that mark but the cursor bar is missing.

exact same problem over here. pt first works on my other win10 machine but it's useless on the surface book due to the cursor not showing up. were you able to solve the issue?
