Automating Plugin Instruments With Midi Controller.....whats wrong here?

I am at my wits end, I have a Mac Book Pro core duo running Pro tools 7.3.cs8 LE with an mbox mini and I have had nothing but trouble trying to write automation parameters to an Xpand instrument plugin using my oxygen 8 controller...

What is Happening:

After loading pro tools and instantiating Xpand I select the automation parameter(s) I would like to use, (for example the cutoff frequency) I then click "learn" on the cutoff of Xpand and touch a knob on my controller to assign it to the said parameter and I can see it moving in real time. In my track view options I select Xpand cutoff so I can see what automation changes are being made. I select touch/latch/write for the type of automation I want to write and the hit play.....everything works great....but only once.....


...and then never again unless i reboot pro tools....... and then the same thing......I have only one pass at automation then it simply does not work... can still hear controller in real time making the cutoff changes but the auto mation does not change in the track view or on playback...I have gone as far as zeroing my drives and reinstalling everything... I have the latest cs update and driver for my controller......can someone help me before I go absolutely nuts?????

As it's MIDI CC data you need to record it, but make sure you have the MIDI track set to MIDI Merge in your transport, otherwise you will wipe the data.
