Best Way To Create Headphone Mix from 96/10?
I'm now using a Command 8 with my HD system, and it only has one set of outputs.
So, I'm thinking of taking two unused outputs from the 96/i/o out to a headphone amp. In Pro Tools, would I just then be best advised to have the Master fader assigned to both my main outs, and also the two "headphone outs"? Curious as to best way to set this up. Thanks TH |

create a pre fader aux send on each track and route them to the 96i/o. Press the flip button on the C8 and you can control your phones with the faders. Fun!!

Hey sounds like a cool idea....I went to try it and see now that I'm completely stupid about this and can't figure out how to tell a given buss to go out outputs 3-4 of the interface....can some kind soul enlighten me?

address the hardware directly from the send pulldown.

If I may... I think a better way is to send your pre-fader aux to a bus. Make an aux in, input=bus; output=hardware. Make a master fader for the bus to trim it back before it reaches the aux in. With this routing, you have a little more control on what goes to the headphone amp and you can get a better handle on the gain staging. Headphone amps can be real finicky as to input level... so this is one way to keep control.

If I may.....
simply create a master fader for the hardware in question and you can see the gain staging and even insert a limiter to protect the amp and ears. No need to make a aux input just for this IMO. |
