Pro Tools HD registration

Hi.

I am new here, but my studio owns PT since 2010. Only very recently have I started personally using PT in a serious way and found it better that my day to day DAW (Logic X).

I am now committed to PT and am going to upgrade to 12 HD from 10 HD.

However, I bought the HD license from a studio owner, only the SW. The license was transferred to my iLok in 18 Jan 2012.

The other day I went to Avid to register my PT online, and was unable to as I do not have the 'system ID' that it asks for.

I am going to buy the upgrade from Thomann music store as it is cheaper than buying direct to Avid. Will the activation card suffice to register at Avid or do I need to do something else?

I have had no trouble downloading upgrades, so far, but would like to set everything straight.

Hi and Welcome to the Avid Community

I can't give you a 100% answer so I have sent this to Avid and will be back as soon as Possible with an answer.

Usually HD transfers are not allowed without HD Hardware system sales so registering the old PT10HD might not work nor do you need to as the upgrade to PT11/12HD looks at the ilok license so when you do the purchase you will be asked to surrender the HD10 license and then you will be able to register the new HD12/11/10 bundle to your Avid account and get the updates etc from your own account.

Just let me double check this so nothing unexpected occurs ok.

The fact that I can upgrade to PT 12 HD is a huge relief. I have been investing a lot of time lately learning PT and was getting worried.

Thanks for the kind words

So as long as you have a legit PT10HD license on your ilok you are good to go with the upgrade option from HD10 to HD12.

That new bundle you are buying comes with licenses for all 3 versions of :
HD 10/11/12 so you will still be able to access HD10 should you need the rtas plugin versions which are replaced with AAX64 bit in HD11 and up. Thats a great thing
