Default 6.9 Installation then upgrade to 8 on Mac 10.6

I'm about to buy a new iMac and I know PT 6.9 wont work with Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard. Since this is the only PT disc I have, is it possible to install 6.9 and then immediately upgrade to PT 8? Or do I have to either buy a brand new 8 or something like the Mbox micro (comes with PT 8)?

Btw, I've never upgraded before. Do upgrade discs contain the entire program, meaning I don't even need to install 6.9 to get 8. Just provide the correct product # etc..

You'll need to purchase 8, which is a full package with its own authorization. No need to install an earlier version.

Pretty sure the upgrade is all you need. And yes the 8.0 "upgrade" is the full installer. I would think it would be best to not even try installing 6.9. That could cause some issues.

However having said that. What interface do you have? If you have anything other than something from the mbox2 or 003 families, it may be best to buy/upgrade interfaces and get the software for free. Next time I need/have to do a paid upgrade I'm seriously going to look at getting the Mbox Micro/Mini for easy portability. And if you take into account the upgrade is $150 another $100 for the micro and update don't sound too bad to me.

FWIW the Mbox only works with 8.0.1, and the 001 hasn't been supported for a while now. The 002's are still compatible, but who knows how much longer that will last.

Thanks CME for clearing that up for me.

I have a 002, but since I'm buying a brand new 27" iMac, I think i'll wait it out until they eventually discontinue it lol..

Yeah the Micro isn't such a bad deal, especially since you get a pretty useful little interface and a full version of PT. Now you can get some mixing done during work haha..
