Default 2.0 or 2.4 Ghz ?

Hi Guys !

I was wondering if you can help me...
If want to use PT to mix mobile... wich processor is better 2.0 or 2.4 ? Is there a noticeable difference ?

I'm gonna be using plugins most of the time (not virtual instruments)

Thanks !

But is the difference in performance worth the difference in price value ?

ie. is the macbook 2.4ghz worth the extra money over the macbook 2.0ghz ??

THANKS !

If you can notice a difference between 2.0Ghz and 2.4Ghz ... you probably have special powers that should be harnessed for the good of mankind.

Do Not buy a new model MacBook... No Firewire ports for your recording HD

If you are pushing you system to the limits, you’ll be better off with a faster computer, if your not, you will not likely never see a difference. And good point above, no Firewire is a problem.

A 20% cpu speed difference, assuming other factors are approx. the same (memory mainly) will be noticeable with respect to the number of plugins/effects that you can apply. I wish I had another 20%. I agree that for many non cpu intensive tasks, the speed is not noticeable - word prosessing, email, internet browsing for example. But throw a compressor, EQ on each channel, add a reverbe or two on an Aux, etc. and that 20% comes in handy.

Now, what is that worth depends on what you are using PT's for and if you will be pushing the CPU with the work you do.

Good points ... but the thing is, I'm gonna be using the macbook ONLY for mixing mobile, just to get some work done outside the studio.
I'll not need an external HD, so no firewire is needed (only a usb for the mbox micro)

For example, if I use 1 altiverb, 2 dverbs, 4 Waves SSL, 3 Smack and 10 EQIII with a limiter and a comp in the master bus, will it work with a 2.0ghz or should I get the 2.4ghz ?

Thanks again !

If you say so. I will strongly disagree.
