HD9 crashes when connecting to DSI... SOLVED
When starting my newly installed PT HD 9.0.1, I see the following start windows:
-Starting Pro Tools, -Initializing Database, -Connecting to DSI, ->then Crash. Error in module: mftt.dll Windows 7 Pro/64bit runs normal after the crash. From time to time the programm starts normal and runs WITHOUT ANY FURTHER problem (as I´m used to from former versions, but in 7 of 10 starts it stalls). I think, that it has to do with the drivers/integration of my Card/Interface combination: HD2 with PCI core + PCI process + 96i/o + Mojo. When I remove the PCI Cards from the system and connect a simple "Fast Track Pro" Interface (only), the system runs like a dream......! Any idea??? I lost 5 days by installing, removing, optimizing, reading (almost) every post and the knowledgebase......nothing. technical background: (I will post a sandra, when I have done it) Workstation: HP xw8400 with one modification: SATA system drive instead of the SAS system disk (no more SASs in the computer, no RAID, just simple partitions) 2CPUs : 2x XEON 2,66MHz 4 GB RAM original HP, NVidia FX3500 graphics, 1. Disk: SATA 500GB 2. Disk: SATA 1TB for Audio 3. Disk: SATA 1TB for Video Win7Pro/64bit, freshly installed, PT HD 9.0.1, HD Core PCI + HD Process PCI + 96i/o Interface + Mojo hardware My creativity has come to an frustrated end..... Regards Stefan P.S.: Sorry, just seen the other DSI fred..... |

Re: HD9 crashes when connecting to DSI...
@DIGI SUPPORT:
HD2 PCI + Win7/64bit + PT HD9 IS NOT WORKING!!! I´m a professional PT user since 1995 (audio post production), but I never ever had such troubles with Pro Tools before. I´m really frustrated, because loosing time, money and clients is not what we pros are expecting when investing in (what I used to call) a top of the line platform (Pro Tools TDM an NOT NUENDO). Once again: HP xw8400 Windows 7/64bit Pro Tools HD9 HD2 PCI + 96i/o with all the optimizations you suggested Why is a (not very exotic) system like that not working? Everithing fullfills your compatibility criteria....... (ok, workstation was compatible with PT8, but should work with PT9) Hope that someone from DigiSupport is reading and answering this!!!!! In the meantime: Can anyone else please help?? Thank you in advance mcfid |

Re: HD9 crashes when connecting to DSI...
Couple of things I noticed.
You know all of your WD Drives (WD10EARS-00MVWB0 ) are the SLOW 5400rpm Green drives. Not exactly the best option. In googling the model number (I had a hunch they were the green drives) I found quite a lot of issues people were having with issues with them. If anything, they are just slow and won't provide the best performance. Also, it doesn't seem that your Quadro card is one of the supported NVidia cards from Avid: Quote:

@Ghengis:
Thank you very much for your input, I will replace the NVidia next week and see if it helps. Caviar Green: As you said, I thought they are just slow - ok -, never expected them to cause other troubles.... Regards mcfid |

Re: HD9 crashes when connecting to DSI...
Part of what makes the WD green drives "green" is that the have energy conservation modes of operation. As you might guess, anything that conserves energy is usually bad for PT.
Preferred drives: WD Black, 7200 rpm, at least 16 MB cache (32 MB readily availble and preferred). FWIW, I am running PT HD 9 Native with an ATI video card and WD Black drives on an i7 920 (OC'd to 3 GHz) and Win 7 x64 without issue. Hope this helps, Greg

Re: HD9 crashes when connecting to DSI...
This could also be defective hardware. Do you possibly have another machine you could test it in? Have you tried it with just the core card installed?

Re: HD9 crashes when connecting to DSI...
@support:
Thanks for replying! I put the cards (HD2 PCIX 1xCore + 1xprocess - not the accelerates ones) back to my Mac G5 1,8MHz PT 7.4 and they are (again) running without the slightest problem at all!! That´s why I do not think there is a hardware problem. Any other idea? Best Regards mcfid |

Re: HD9 crashes when connecting to DSI...
Did you ever replace the NVidia card? What about testing with only the Core card installed, or changing the card order?
Another thing would be to get the latest BIOS version for that computer model/motherboard. It's not tested by us, but the info I see on it may indicate that updating the BIOS could resolve this problem. |

Re: HD9 crashes when connecting to DSI...
Thank you for your help!!
I didn´t managed to try it again and change the nvidia card, because the system is "in production" (on Mac with PT 7.4) and it is only available on weekends. What I will do next is: 1) Remove the NVidia 2) Update BIOS 3) Change Card order (do you mean Process in slot 1 and Core in slot 2? Can that work? Never tried this before). I will keep you up to date, but it will take some days.... Best regards mcfid |
