daisy-chaining FW HD
A friend is using PT9 on a macbook pro and a presonus firestudio with good results so far.
I've convinced him to get an external FW drive for sessions....is it still recomended to put the FW drive between computer and interface? I know they used to recomend that config. for the 002 and 003. Thanks for any info.

Re: daisy-chaining FW HD
Yes, but even better if you get an express34 Firewire card and run either the interface or the HD off of that.

So run one off the express card and the other from the built-in port ?

Re: daisy-chaining FW HD
Yes. I have an express card and it works well with my FW800 drives.
I would use the build-in FW port to go directly to the interface. Hook any other FW drives to the express card.

Re: daisy-chaining FW HD
I have an eSATA ExpressCard in my MBP for my drives and it kicks ass!

eSATA beats out FW every time, and no need to jam up the FW bus or daisychain.

Re: daisy-chaining FW HD
I was thinking of getting an express34 FW card, but the eSATA card sounds pretty slick. Just to be sure, something like the Sonnet Tempo SATA edge ExpressCard/34 would connect up to my Glyph drive? The SATA card and a 1-meter cable would actually cost just less than a FW/USB express34 card.

Re: daisy-chaining FW HD
My FW interface drives run around 75 MB/sec while they do around 125 MB/sec with eSATA. So if you are looking for the fastest interface, yes, eSATA. But I don't know what difference it will make with your actual sessions. Of course faster is always better. But a FW400 drive will support 32 tracks.
I've seen many quad interfaces on drives now so they come with USB, FW400, FW800 and eSATA.
