6.1: Can\'t open session with lots of FADE Files
I've got a session that has several fades files in it. I know this because everytime I try to open that session, it gets hung up right at the end when doing something with the fades. It tells me: "Open Session Command not Completed: Access Violation Occurred." Then it freezes up - my computer still works but it won't let me click on Ok for the error message and no other windows in ProTools respond. I have to ctrl - alt - del it. The only way I've been able to do work in it is to start a new session and click the "import session data" button and import it from the original session. It still gives me an error message but it lets me click OK and then work in my session. So now I have several copies of the same session because to open it I have to start a whole new session.
Anyone have any ideas what this might be? I renamed my fade files folder to see if that would trick protools or something but it didn't work. Thanks, Jeremy |

Re: 6.1: Can\'t open session with lots of FADE Files
Delete all the fade-files. Just drag the whole folder into the trash. The session will then start asking for them. Answer "skip all", because they will be created automatically.

Re: 6.1: Can\'t open session with lots of FADE Files
Bastiaan,
Thanks for the reply. I did that, and it still does the same thing. It gives me options for the fade files, then whatever I pick (render, link, skip, etc.) It still tells me access violation occurred. It goes through all the fade files, tries to do them, puts them in the "paused tasks" area, then freezes up. |

Re: 6.1: Can\'t open session with lots of FADE Files
Tell us about the drive the session is on.. Is it listed as R, P or T in the Workspace?
Try deleting all the Digidesign Database files/folders throughout your system (on all drives and in the Digidesign folder) and try again. If this doesn't help, then move the session (not copy) to another audio drive and try that. Rail

Re: 6.1: Can\'t open session with lots of FADE Files
I'm not positive if this works in 6.1, but in 5.3 heres what I do.
After you are happy with the way the sound file sounds with the fades applied. Select the sound file so that its highlighted, then consolidate it. You do this by pressing Shift+Alt+3 (I believe thats the combo} What this does is creates a new sound file with the fades already built in. It makes the screen look better too, without all the fade lines.

He could consolidate the tracks.. if he could open the session.. unfortunately, if you read the original post.. he can't.

Re: 6.1: Can\'t open session with lots of FADE Files
I am going to try and delete all the database folders and check out what the hard drive is classified as in Protools. Where do I find that? It's a separate hard drive from the system drive if that matters.
When I had the opened session (that I had just copied the session data into) I tried to consolidate the tracks. It wouldn't do it because of some kind of error or uncompleted tasks or something. I'll get back to you. Thanks, Jeremy |

Re: 6.1: Can\'t open session with lots of FADE Files
The drive is listed as an "R" drive. What do I do now? I don't want to delete the digidesign databases if it makes me lose my plugin settings. Can I get around this?

Re: 6.1: Can\'t open session with lots of FADE Files
The database files/directories have nothing whatsoever to do with your plug-ins... they're a database of the files on your drives.. If you delete them, PT will simply recreate them.
