Default About to send project to master/replication

I was told not to place the songs on a cd as track 1 -15 but as 1 long track, is this correct, because some tracks I want to X-fade. The same place that master the cd will be replicating it.

Is there a major differece between replication and duplication?

You say in the post title master/replication, which is it?
IF you are sending for mastering, check what formats your matering house accepts, most likely they will acept 24 bit protools sesions. Send them a CD of your mixes as DATA files in Protools.

If you are sending off a mastered CD for duplication, again check the formats they accept, but what you want to send them is a redbook CD, 16bit 44.1k. The CD should be EXACTLY as you want it to be, including track gaps, index points, fade in/outs, levels, song order, etc.

do not send as one long song, otherwise your CD's will have one track.

Replication and duplication are synonymous terms. Mastering is an entirely different subject.

Hi there MR808,

Replication= your CDR (must be in it's final, intended form)is encoded to an image, which is then used to create a glass master. After electroforming/galvanics they arrive at a stamper. This piece is used in injection molding to replicate up to 20-30.000 final CDs. A new stamper is created for additional production runs.
This is the standard, professional and cheaper way ( in larger quantities )of manufacturing optical media.

Duplication= simply put...your original source master> your CDR (must be in it's final, intended form)< is burned to any number of new CDRs. Just like you'd do it @ home..but differing degree of quality controll is employed.

X-fade between tracks has nothing to do with numbering the CD tracks. However, a capable master editor should be used to create the final CDR ( Wavelab ?? )

hope this helps...
cheers,
