Default Clicking on punch in...zero crossings...need help.

I am working on a project that is NOT exactly "in time." It's live acoustic guitar and vocal. In other words there is no click track and I am working in SLIP mode NOT GRID mode. We are doing overdubs and I am getting a terrible pop on the in and out points that I never experienced before when punching in.

The weirdest thing is that once in a while I won't get a pop but most of the time I do. I even went so far as to find the zero-crossing points on each side before I punched and still no luck.

As an experiment I exported a section of the concert and threw it in my old standby Cool Edit Pro (on another computer) and I am able to highlight my selection, tell it to find the zero crossings, punch in, record, and it works just fine.

Any thoughts? Do I need to worry about zero crossings with Pro Tools? Does it automatically find them for you when you punch?

I'd zoom in on the point where the audio overlaps and make sure the waveform lines up. If they don't there's often a click.

You need to do a crossfade between the Punched in region and the adjacent region.

Wait a minute here,

Are you guys telling me that to perform a simple punch-in I have to perform an additional step and crossfade the meet points? Excuse me but this is ridiculous! I have used much older multri-track software and never has it been so complicated. I'm a little frustrated with Pro Tools right now. It's not saving me any time at the moment.

Sorry - you weren't goofing on me? Crossfades a mac only thing? I don't get it then.

Isn't that a PC only command?
