Default PT8 first impressions

Hi,
I must salute Digidesign for this release - it is a totally new experience and lots of goodies around that makes the work more pleasureable too.

Been messing around shortly with it on the new Q6600 and it is rock solid.

Let it stay this way now.

Cheers,
- J

I got it after few hours of strugglin' with the Digistore and Activation...Anyway got it now.
The Installation went very well, no noticeable probs.
I really like the new look. But I have to admit I got to get used to it now.The waveform looks better, nice colors and ambience. The only little thing is the size of the Mix Window (bigger, higher!) so the layout has to be reconsidered as I can't put as many windows as I want on my first screen as I used to (Locators, Automation Controls, Sys Usage and Transport).
Tried the new Xpand2, new A.I.R plugins.By the way the MiniGrand sounds great.Boom is a good creative tool.

Haven't tried the Elastic Pitch yet nor the Comp Edit.
Really need to "dig" inside this new version!

For the moment it's all good!

Share your experience guys!

Got it going last night....you have to be patient with the download and install process or you'll go crazy.

First impression is "Fluid".....everything just moves so smooth....the way you click on things and click and drag and open........very solid....the font is larger on the tracks...much easier on the eyes. MIDI clocking seems to be a bit tighter as well.....

The Minigrand VI has awesome dynamics.......sounds pretty solid in the core part of the board, but the lows seem to lose a bit on heavier chords....a bit muddy, but very useable by my standards...

Still playing with things like everyone else, but so far like I mentioned...it's very fluid.

Yeah, I have to agree with the sentiment so far. Easy dload, easy install and works like a charm. Boom is inspirational and the AIR plugins are great. Havent got around to trying much out, but I am very excited about this release. Well done Digi

I like PT 8 a lot, but as a dialogue editor I found it really hard for me to navigate with the SHIFT + SCROLL WHEEL function now being considerably slower. I know a lot of people don't use that, but for me it's my fastest way to scroll from side to side in version 7. Now I have to find a workaround

Justin,
Is just the SHIFT+SCROLL slowed down, or is the general scrolling and/or mouse function also affected? Performance is important to me, and I want to feel reasonably safe before I make the jump to 8. Have you observed any other problems/issues/concerns yet? And for academics sake, would you mind listing out your comp specs? TIA

I'm running:
m-audio mobile pre usb
XP sp3
intel D955Xbk, dual 2.8GHz pentium D, 4GB ram
Nvidia Geforce 7300 GS - mon 1 digi 1680x1050 - mon 2 vga 1024x768
logitech trackman wheel

Thank you!

I know this is SOooooo general, but:

How's it working with your Dual Cores? (MOBO & CPU & RAM Please) DVerbs?

How's it working with your Quad Cores? (MOBO & CPU & RAM Please)DVerbs?

I'll assume you've seen Shanes post in regards to decreased DVerb count with the new DVerb including chorus, and by replacing DVerb with the old version you'll get your accurate DVerb counts.

RTAS performance? I run heavy on Waves Platinum Native v5.2 right now on 7.1 and sometimes have issues with 40+ track sessions. but I'm about to build a Quad now anyway.

I too was one of those who was gonna sit and wait for cs2, but I'm reading lots of good things, and seeing problems as being minimal, issues with preference or opinions/taste, or isolated incidents for the most part.

I might be takin the plunge early .... :) Just need to keep seein feedback I guess.

Thank you all for the feedback. We also appreciate your patience with our website as it is experiencing about 20 times the normal amount of traffic with the release of Pro Tools 8.0.
