Default MP3 and AAC bitrates?

I've been asked to create MP3 and AAC (aka MP4) versions of some final mixes. What bitrate should I use? What's the industry standard? In iTunes, the default AAC bitrate is 128kbps, and the iTunes default MP3 bitrate is 192kbps. Should I stick to that? The goal is to create the most universally playable conversions, and yet still maintain good quality. Thoughts?

I don't think it would really matter what bitrate you use as they are all pretty much universally playable the difference would be the filesize and quality. That being said, I've found that 192kbps seems to be a pretty good filesize/quality ratio.

I have not been able to determine if an actual "industry standard" even exists. Since iTunes rules that world right now, I suppose their defaults (see my original post) is the way to go then. Anybody else have some knowledge to share on this question?

either is fine but try to use the highest bit rate possible to stop the degradation of the audio quality
