Default Keyboard Shortcuts & Pro Tools Keyboards

Hey Guys,

I'm very new to Pro Tools although I have been on these forums for a while. I only use PT on a part time basis and have recently done an official PT curriculum course and would like to sit the exam.

Upon recommendation I purchased a PT keyboard with all the shortcuts on it to get a grip of all the shortcuts quicker, but to be quite frank, I don't get it. It is colour coded etc, but there are shortcuts for Command + Key, Alt/option + Key, some are even multiple function keys + key but on the keyboard it doesn't actually show which key combination's go together. Why have the different colours if they aren't matched to an operator/function key. For example all the pink keys are the command + pink key shortcuts??

Sorry, probably the most stupid question ever.

I actually contacted the manufacturer of the keyboard asking this similar question and the reply I got was a wee bit terse. Basically saying the it wasn't a learning tool and they make them to Avid specifications and that I should learn the keyboard shortcuts by referring to the manual. What the????

What is the point of buying a super expensive "No Frills" other than colour coded keys keyboard if I have to learn the shortcut keys before being able to use it effectively. To me that doesn't sound like anything I can't do with a normal stock standard keyboard. I'm just not getting it!

Can someone please help me to understand why I just paid AUD$229.00 on this keyboard that doesn't seem to actually assist me at all.

This could potentially be the most obvious and stupid question yet so be prepared. :)

Cheers

Willo

It looks cool.

Pink represents editing functions, yellow represents zoom functions, purple represents fade functions, blue represents transport and navigation, green shows MIDI functions, etc...

There's simply no way to have key combos printed on the keyboard - there's no room.

Thanks for the reply.

It makes sense, but where is that information made available? It wasn't made available with the product and there is no mention in the PT shortcut PDF docco.

I checked my own PT custom keyboard. I haven't seen any info about this.
