Default NAMM 2012: Waves Respond To AAX Concerns

Have you guys seen this?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=s29XQ504Mq8

Seems like the relationship between Avid and Waves is getting worse. I was really hoping to get some better news from Namm.

How do you get from this video that the 'relationship is getting worse'

AVID released a brand new plug-in technology, 'AAX' -hardware for which has just started shipping, and Waves responds that they will offer support for this new format natively but they are not sure when and if they will support the DSP version.

I think it's a reasonable and honest response. It seems a little too soon to jump to any conclusions.

Russ doesn't work for Avid.

You're watching a blogger and a trade show rep and extrapolating from that the relationship of 2 corporations? strange.

It may just be me, I'll concede that, but I could not help but feel like Russ was violating his personal space. it was kinda creepy to me. Nothing against Russ, I love his blog, but it kinda made me feel uncomfortable. His body language was odd.

As for reading between the lines, it is obvious to me that the relationship is strained, it sounds like the negating process has not been good.

I viewed it just because of this comment. I don't see it as you do.

However, I think it was straightforward. Why would they commit without knowing the market. If I were Waves I wouldn't commit to DSP.

Anyone want to take a guess as to how many people a day asked the Waves Reps the same question(s) regarding AAX?

You never know, they may already have it, but refuse to admit it, and spending marketing and distribution money on it until they are positive it is going to become a long lasting seller. Maybe it's not the coding, maybe its the money in the commitment.
