Hearing a 9th track during recording
I want to record 8 tracks on my 001 simultaniously (sp?) for drum tracks. The drummer will be listening to a click provided by SampleTank. I want to make it so the drummer can hear a guitar player and the click through his headphones while recording, but the 001 only allows 8 tracks and the guitar player would be a 9th track. How can I make it so the guitar player can run his guitar signal through Protools, allowing guitar/drummer to hear click and guitar at the same time? Phew....
Running 001 5.3.1 Thanks, Matt |

Re: Hearing a 9th track during recording
It is possible to have up to 18 inputs with the 001. To do this, you will need to utilize the digital inputs of the 001; the lightpipe 8 channel and/or the s/pdif two channel.
There is a list of some of the units that will work for this on this help page on my website; though the digimaxLT is probably the most popular choice for lightpipe units, but the behringer ADA8000 is probably the cheapest (you get what you pay for). The topic has been discussed here many times, and if you do a search for "18 inputs" you will find a lot more information about it.

Re: Hearing a 9th track during recording
pre-record the guitar track, then play it back from tools while tracking the drums.

patch the guitar into an aux on a headphone amp.

Re: Hearing a 9th track during recording
do you reeeeeally need 8 mics? led zepplin\who = 3 friggin mics on the drums. ok, sometimes four. check this out: http://www.danalexanderaudio.com/glynjohns.htm
I almost never use more than four mics on a drum set - two overheads, one kick, one snare. sometimes if the floor tom is featured or I really want the bottom of the snare, I'll add one more but I hardly need it. mostly just geeking out. Will
