WOW...

sounds like you aren't having much luck.

You don't list which plugins you have installed.

Double check your windows xp permissions, on the folders.

Make sure that your drives are all set up as valid audio drives.

has this always happened?

Is it with all sessions (create a new one?)

If it is on ly this session try making a new one, and importing session data. Perhapsyou have a corrupt session.

Thanks Bigbubbaj. No, Not all of them, but a lot of them. (maybe 20%) have this problem. I tried creating a new session and importing the tracks, but I also get access violation errors. When the session finally opened. I got rid of all the plugs, and did a save as. But that didn't help.
I'm using the FXpansion with the Waves Reniasance Bundle, an Akai bundle, and A Steinberg bundle.
I already had all these VST's from my old Logic System. How Do I check windows xp permissions, on the folders? I just talked to Digi Tech support, and they just sent me some fancy uninstaller. I'm going to do that, and update the result. Thanks.

Well, I ran the special uninstaller sent from digi, reinstalled 6.9, and opened the session and got a new error!

Program Error
A fatal exception has occured.
ProTools must exit.
A log file has been written to: D:\Program Files\Digidesign\Pro Tools Utilities\ExceptionLogFiles\Log-127773603518280000.ptx

I reopened Pro Tools, and tried opening the session and got another access violation occurred message.

what now?

anybody want to buy my computer?

Just an observation: It seems like the problem is with your session files more than the Protools application. Reinstalling Protools doesn't fix session files. Do you have a backup of the session? If so, see if Protools has any problems with the backup. I'm not trying to be a smart a**. I'm just trying to point out that your troubleshooting seems to assume that Protools is not working correctly or the computer is not working properly. These may still be true but my guess is that the session files are corrupt.

Hey Obsidian Dragon. Thanks for your input. I opened a session backup. And when I went to save it, I got this:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program D:/Program Files/Digidesign/Pro Tools/ProToolsLE.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

I reopened Pro Tools, and opened that same backup, and saves it as a recovered session this time with no problem. I resumed work, and about 3 minutes later, the session crashed. I reopened it again, and this time when saving it, I got another access violation error. Is there something in this particular session that's making it unstable?

I don't know if there is something in the session that is causing the problem. Another possibility is that your hard disk is having problems. the reason I say this is that you are getting "Access Violations." It might be worth looking into reformatting the data (audio) drive (after making sure you have a backup). With the prices if hard drives so low nowadays, You might consider replacing the data (audio) drive and give it a try. Good luck

Thanks Obsidian again. Both system and audio drives are new SATAs. the audio drive is a WD raptor 37 GB 10,000 rpm. System drive is a seagate 60 GB 7200rpm sata. Reformatting never hurts, so I'll give that a shot. thanks again.

BTW: Other than the MADNESS you mentioned above, how do you like the Western Digital Raptor 10,000 RPM SATA drives? I was considering getting some of these too. Is the speed noticable and are they quiet?

Is there a reason your program files are on D: rather than C:? The recommended way is all programs on the OS drive and a physically separate drive for your audio recording.

I've got 2 of the WD Raptors, one for OS and one for Audio. Both are quiet and work well with PT LE.

Cheers,
