Default HDX and HD I/O.

Here's the issue I have a question about. I purchased an HDX card I haven't installed yet (still using my HD4 system) , but I need to know if I use my Antelope Trinity /M10 combo (word clock), do I need to use the loop sync on my HD I/O's while clocking with Trinity/M10 combo if I'm using the same digi-link port on the HDX card? I know I don't need the loop sync if I use one digi-link port per HD I/O if i use external clocking, the question is if I use 2 HD I/O's per digi-link port on the HDX card.

Now you have me wondering. I was under the impression that Loop Sync should always be connected with multiple HD interfaces(running an HD IO and a 192 here).

In systems I've seen that did not utilize Loop Sync I have seen the interfaces get out of sync with themselves/the Digi Link cable and go into mute mode or random clicks and pops

I don't run a pro studio but I do use my system alot and as far as I recall I haven't had the issues your referring to. As of right now on my HD4 system I have 2 Avid HD I/O's and each one is connected to a separate HD core and accel card. As said before I am use the Antelope Trinity/M10 combo for clocking.

When I finally start using my HDX card both machines will be connected to a single HDX card (til I buy 2 second card) and possibly to the same digi-link port so I can (considering) use the 2 digi-link port for the Digigrid DLS system. This is the reason I'm asking if anybody here has any experience using 2 HD I/O's on the same digi-link port without loop sync, but using external clocking.

I guess the best solution is just to try it with loop sync.

Unless your running a WC cable to each HD I/O from the Trinity then you will need to use loop sync.
I have 2 192's connected to one port on my HD|Native card clocked to a antelope clock and after all the research I did I settled on loop sync instead of running separate WC cables to each I/O unit.
I just feel most comfortable that way and have never had any pops/clicks or any problems with sync.
But theoretically as long as ALL I/O units are getting the same clock signal you should be fine.

Thank you. I think just to be safe I'll added the loop sync and go from there.
