Default M-S matrix

I'm looking for somebody who have experiences how to make (using PT LE and AMIII) Mid-Side stereo matrix. Is it possible
to do it without specialised plug-ins?
I'm waiting for any advices.

Is it for recording or playback?

for playback i was able to make this session using some internal busses and a 1-channel eq for phase-flipping

msplayback.pts

Hope this helps

(This setup will cause latency on the tracks being played....)

If you happen to have one of the Waves-bundles, you have a plugin called ms-matrix....

The mid mic is panned center. the side mic is split to two tracks. Pan one track left, invert phase on the other and pan right. the amount of mid mic determines the width of the stereo field.

Hope this is helpful.

For recording:
You need 2 mics, one with cardiod and one with figure 8. You set the fig 8 so that the pickup pattern points to the sides. Then you place the cardiod right in-line with the other mic so that the pickup pattern points to the "front" or middle.

For acoustic guitar I used a Groove Tubes 6tm in figure 8 with an AT4041 mounted directly below it pointed at the 12th fret.

Keep in mind this method picks up a lot of the room, so I had to move farther away from my PC (and its fan).

For Using it:
If you have the Waves Gold bundle, check out the S1 Spatializer (I think that's the name). You set up a stereo track M on left and S on right. Then tell the plug-in to do an MS decode (one of the options). From the plug-in you control the amount of stereo separation and panning, the same as you can do with using busses/channels/routing. It's not the brute force method and its kind of cheating, but it does the decode for you.

Sounded great on that Acoustic, good stereo field. Just watch for Mono compatiblity, although the whole great thing about MS is that it is mono compatible.
