12.8 freezes on startup

After installing 12.8 it started normally and I opened sucessfully my projects.

Today after a restart PT freezes right at the beginning.
Did try several time with deleted prefs FREEZE.
Restored old prefs and went back to 12.7.1 which runs normal so far.

On Pro Tools systems with several hundred plug-ins installed, Pro Tools may quit unexpectedly on launch. If this occurs, try the following:

• Move approximately 100 plug-ins (or more) from the Plug-Ins folder to the Plug-Ins (Unused) folder (/Library/Application Support/Avid/Audio/).
• Launch Pro Tools.
• Quit Pro Tools.
• Move the plug-ins back from the Plug-Ins (Unused) folder to the Plug-Ins folder.
• Launch Pro Tools.

Thanks But yesterday it worked and scanned all plugs without error.

Protools freezes as soon the startup screen is coming.
At that time no plugs are loaded I think.

As there are really a lot of plugs I will try that when I have time.
Have to wrk now.

You might like to try dumping the workspace file. Usually found in /Users/Shared/ProTools.
I was having problems with how long PT took to start, dumped the workspace file and things sped up straight away.

hi Erik, did you keep that file (just in case) or trash it ?? also: it just rebuilds itself like Pref's. right ??

in the PT Prefs (the app from Pete Gates), there is an item called Database/Catalogue (Workspace 11+) ...

could this be that file ??

if this is on a PC not sure how this file translates ..

I know the workspace file problem.

I always keep the last workspace files on my computer.
Normally 3 different workspace folder copies

When protools worked perfect or I did load and scanned new library I always copy the workspace files to a safe place.

When protools crashes (12.7.1 rarely crashes) i ALWAYS delete the files and replace them with the latest copy.

I found that after a crash somtimes something gets corrupted with this folder and for example protools has very long loading times. Switching back to a previously saved workspace ALWAYS makes running PT safe again.

I, too, am having this issue. I uninstalled and re-installed and now Pro Tools will open, but whenever I click a menu item (or any command) it takes 5+ minutes to load. This has caused PT to be completely useless.

I have also tried:
- Downgrading to PT 12.7.1
- Deleting the Workspace file
- Moving all plugins to the unused folder
- Trashing prefs (with PT Prefs app)

This is very frustrating, as I have not had an issue like this with PT in years. 12.7.1 was working perfectly.

I am running El Capitan on a Mid 2012 MBP, i7 2.9GHz, 8GB RAM, 525GB SSD.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?! Thank you!

Thank you @Reckless Erik. This method solved the problem I had with my Pro Tools HD systems, so far. Just updated to Pro Tools HD 12.8.2, and still starting up pretty fast.

Deleing workspace file is senseless on long term

I tried that several times.

When I let rescan my production files ans sound library the broblem is back again (Three HD machines)

One of our system takes every morning up to 20 minutes to start.!!
It depends on the size of the workspace file.

I have a still open support case since 12.8.1 5 weeks or so
Support stopped replying

Maybe I should shout again.
