Default recording midi with Kontakt 2 onscreen keyboard

Does anybody know what I need to do to record midi tracks using the onscreen keyboard in Kontakt 2? I usually use a USB controller, but I want to be able to build tracks without using it if possible. I can get signal on my midi track when playing sounds in Kontakt 2 using the onscreen keyboard, but I can't get anything to record.

Use the pencil tool and draw the notes on the MIDI track.

Yeah, I know how to do that, but I was hoping to be able to record in realtime via the onscreen keyboard. I'm sure it's a midi setup thing, but I can't figure it out.

No, you cannot do that.
