Mute works intermittently

Procedure: Referencing a mix, I will un-mute and solo my ref either by clicking the Mute and Solo buttons at the same time, or the Mute followed by Solo a micro-second afterwards. I then quickly stop/start playback to hear again from a specific place. Then mute/unsolo the ref in the same fashion to get back to the "live" mix, and stop/start playback in the same fashion. I'm moving very fast using an Avid S1.

Problem: When muting the ref to switch back to the live mix and restarting playback, sometimes I will hear the (very clearly muted) ref and the live mix at the same time (double the volume!!) Stop/Start playback quickly will give me the actual playback I want to hear, but my ears/brain have been blown out and I need a moment to re-calibrate. Workflow killler.

Nothing fancy, I'm working in Stereo. Other than this weirdness, the system is super stable and snappy and I never have CPU errors ... this problem stands out and has for awhile now. Not sure exactly which version of PT it started in, or if it's been here forever.

Anyone else having this? Is there a bug logged? I kill Avid Link every time I install PT ... do I need to install it to log a bug?
