Default Which version neutered M1 machines?

I didn’t have the expected horse power in PT on my M1 MacBook, then someone suggested I roll back to 2021.3 and WOAH! I have easily 50-100% more horsepower with that version!

My question is, which version neutered the M1 machines? Because I do want the features from the newer versions like functional video import and 256 tracks in standard PT.

2021.3.1 is the fast one. Native SHOULD blow that away, can't wait for it next year. If not, questions have to be asked.

So, if we want the horsepower we have to stay on 2021.3 and just not work to video? I can live without the extra tracks 2021.6 gave us, and sidechain delay compensation I guess. Any other issues with .3 that I should know about?

Sure does seem silly to nerf half the cores on M1's when "qualifying" it. Any idea what that's about?

To be fair 2021.10 has been good for me. I give up the speed for the features and stability, and just wait for the promise of a native version that is faster than anything we've seen yet.

M1 has four cores capable of running plugins (performance cores) and four corse capable of running low-power things. That is why PT is no longer showing anything but performance cores in the system usage window.

I sure hope Avid gives us a christmas present by releasing Apple Silicon native PT software. There has been a 202x.12 for so long as they have had the year.month version numbering so hopefully this year is not an exception.

Exactly what Avid has explained... "Due to the innovative combination of Performance cores & High Efficiency cores in M1 machines, the Pro Tools Hardware Monitor will only display 4 CPUs as the majority of the processing needs to be accomplished in the Performance domain."

There is a *very* large difference in performance from High Efficiency to Performance cores.... and when you are a funky pseudo real-time application trying to do heavy numerical crunching...
