Greetings,

Here's a document we compiled which shows capabilities, options and potential workflows with the Pro Tools | MTRX for post production and music. If all goes as planned, it should be available for purchase near the end of November. We are currently working on the integration of MTRX and the way it communicates via DigiLink. In contrast, the AX32 emulates an HD IO or HD MADI interface in Pro Tools which is why you notice it shows up as multiple interfaces. We will ensure that the MTRX is full integrated, supported and a first class citizen in Pro Tools.

best,

Jeff

Thanks Jeff, this is useful.

Any word on:
  • analog round-trip latency to and from HDX via DigiLink
  • whether the clock I/O is supported as loop sync
  • whether the 150us Dante latency is available
The monitoring looks pretty flexible (overkill for me but I'm sure essential for some). Seems like you missed an opportunity to provide a DigiLink card for the scenario described on page 19, although I guess you get to sell a bunch of extra MADI I/O that way

The monitoring looks great.

Is there still the option for the cheaper 2 channel mic input card I saw mentioned somewhere?

8 channels of mic pres is a bit overkill for me.

I have some converter delay data coming soon. In the meantime I'll try and answer the others. Yes, you can use DANTE Virtual Soundcard in conjunction with the MTRX. If you look at the document I posted you can see several applications where this makes sense to bus audio from iTunes, SoundMiner, Live, etc. You can patch from DANTE to DigiLink or DigiLink to DANTE in the patch matrix which is part of DADman. You could also use DANTE Virtual Soundcard as a playback engine in Pro Tools however your IO count would then be limited to 32. The DANTE latency can be reduced (from DVS) by implementing a PCIe souncard from Yamaha or Focusrite (RedNet).

Yes, we will also offer a 2 Channel MIC Pre/AD card for those who don't need 8 channels.

Thanks Jeff! Yeah - my understanding from DAD was that the 150us Dante latency setting was disabled owing to the inbuilt switch, just curious if this is the case with the MTRX.

Also one more thing - any trade-in plans from the Avid interfaces?

With the highly flexible routing matrix, I was wondering if this also could be used to 'create' hardware inserts in pro tools where the input and output channel don't necessarily have to match
