DiGiGrid DLI + SG Server + your existing AVID I/O. I am using OMNI with this setup right now powered by PT12 Vanilla with 1.2ms tracking latency... Am adding an 8X8X8 to this in the next week or two. Plugin power for all your Waves AAX and soon to be FLUX.

But I hear you - AviD completely missed this boat and with their concentration on big post - probably have no interest in it...

Avid probably won't give out a twofer. That effectively reduces the price by 50%. Unless you would be willing to have an "always online" system that would only allow one of the two licenses to be used at any given time. I don't think many people would go for that.

Is there really a reason for separating HD and Vanilla anymore?
What new features could make the cost curve worth it, it's not like Avid is on the cutting edge of anything here.
Is there anyone who would really object to one SW version and one price?

There’s simply not enough distinction between the two versions to warrant the pricing difference.

Avid need to add mind-blowing HD only features fast, or lower the cost.

My vote is for One PT, at One Price.. or make it even more tiered:

Vanilla

HD Music Production (Stereo Mix)

HD Post Production (Surround)

One sec...so if PT 12 vanilla is $29 / month (monthly plan), that's $360 a year for PT vanilla. PT 12 HD upgrade is $599 for the first year (no idea why), but then $399 a year after that for PT HD.

So really, you're spending $278 more for the HD version over the course of 2 years. That's not that bad, though I don't know why PT HD upgrade is $599 for the first year - that really makes no sense to me.

Because Avid needs cash urgently.

Split the fee into

support +upgrades
or
upgrades only

they will get at lest 35-50% more people upgrading
and have less support expense.

If they force me to have support... then Ill be ringing them everytime theres a -9xxx or 6xxx on my screen,

everytime
no

Why?

I'm sure it's because Avid needs people to be able to afford learning Pro Tools while at the same time they need to cover a great deal of development cost. The difference in price is really chickenfeed to professionals.
